The Distance of the Moon

The short story The Distance of the Moon, by Italo Calvino,  is a tale reflecting how at one point, the moon was so close to the earth, one could jump up and walk on it. Yet this is more about love and life than it is the moon. The main character is in love with a married woman, Mrs. Vhd Vhd, of whom is in love with his deaf cousin, otherwise known as The Deaf One. This short story uses elements of fantasy, but does not entirely follow its structure. I would argue this is not a necessary an important distinction, for this story seems to fall in a category of its own.
