American Gods

In this week's novel, American Gods, by Neil Gaiman, he reinvents mythology by placing all gods in America. Yet America is no place for gods— they are invented, and easily forgotten. The people from Europe brought over the Norse gods when they made the journey to America, yet as they developed new traditions, those gods became forgotten and new ones are invented. This is apparent with the new digital gods, who must reinvent themselves in order to remain relevant. They are impudent and fear being forgotten, and as they are in the forms of technology (like how we almost worship our phones) which changes very quickly and are to the whims of their believers.
